Indy CDE financed the construction of a new 56,497 square foot facility with a $10 million NMTC loan. The facility opened its doors on December 3, 2018, after years of planning and fundraising. The new health and wellness facility, located in a severely distressed census tract, provides youth development, educational, and recreational programs to over 17,000 underserved individuals on the westside of Indianapolis near the International Marketplace.
This multi-use facility provides a wide range of services not available to the community before construction. The facility offers rooms for community gatherings, child care services, and a wellness center consisting of a pool, running track, and group exercise spaces. The development of this YMCA recreational and community facility created approximately 160 part-time positions and 12 full-time positions.
The OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA has also partnered with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide medical services to underserved veterans. This partnership is the first of its kind in the U.S. The facility incorporates a 5,000 square foot dedicated Veterans Affairs medical facility where VA healthcare professionals serve patients.
“OrthoIndy Foundation YMCA is a community health and wellness facility that partners with the Department of Veterans Affairs to deliver medical care to underserved veterans.”
