Indy CDE partially financed the Ivy Tech Automotive Training Center’s construction on a vacant site in International Marketplace on Indianapolis’s Northwest side with a $5 million NMTC loan. This 66,625 square feet facility replaces an obsolete 40,000 sq ft facility.
The facility will provide a wide range of programming that equips students to thrive in the ever-evolving automotive maintenance field. Programming focuses on emerging technologies, including alternative fuels training, hybrid vehicles technology, electric vehicle and fuel cell technology, mobile broadband communication, 4G networking, vehicle guidance systems, and satellite communication systems, which is critical to training enough students to fill the estimated 1,500 automotive job openings in Indiana each year.
Forty percent of students are minorities, and 66% are low-income individuals. Ivy Tech has also partnered with corporate sponsors, with 100% of corporate training students placed after graduation. 75% of non-corporate students receive placement upon graduation. As a result of this expansion, Ivy Tech will double the capacity of their automotive training program.
“The Ivy Tech Automotive Training Center is a state-of-the-art facility that equips students for dynamic careers in the ever-evolving automotive field.”
