In March 2024, Indy CDE, joined by CSH and PNC, contributed $7.95 million of the total $27.7 million in NMTC financing to Damien Center for the construction of its new headquarters. The 56,000 square foot building will serve as a comprehensive center for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS.

The new building will allow the Damien Center to expand many of its services including healthcare services (dental, mental, and health), social services, and employment services, more than doubling the number of unique (unduplicated) individuals it can serve from roughly 6,000 to about 17,000 at full capacity. In addition to serving more individuals, the project is set to create 105 quality full-time jobs and retain an additional 150 full-time employees.

Damien Center, established in 1987 as Indiana’s oldest and largest HIV/AIDS service organization, has continuously expanded its programs over the years to meet the evolving needs of the communities it serves. From pharmacy support and employment assistance to adult education, mental healthcare and substance use education, Damien Center seeks to provide a holistic and comprehensive suite of services.

The new facility, expected to open in 2025, will enhance Damien Center’s capacity to support the lives of those often most in need of services. The project is in a Medically-Underserved Area and in the Indy East Promise Zone.
